THIS COURSE WILL COVER AGE AND GROWTH, REPRODUCTION, SEXUAL MATURATION AND MATURATION STRATEGIES AND FEEDING ECOLOGY. THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON ISSUES RELATED TO SAMPLING METHODS FOR STUDYING FISHERIES BIOLOGY, METHODS USED IN DETERMINING THE AGE OF FISH AND INVERTEBRATES, ESTIMATIGN GROWTH PARAMETERS, CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO STAGES OF MATURATION, DETERMINATION OF THE AGE AT MATURITY, FECUNDITY ESTIMATION AS WELL AS QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE STUDY OF THE DIET , ANALYSIS AND APPROPRIATE STATISTICAL METHODS TO COMPARE CURVES AND HYPOTHESIS TESTING. FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE ABUNDANCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF RESOURCES - PHYSICAL (CURRENTS, WINDS), CHEMICAL (NUTRIENTS, POLLUTANTS) AND BIOLOGICAL (LARVAL MORTALITY AND POST-LARVAE, RECRUITMENT RATES, CHANGES IN RATES OF PREDATION AND COMPETITION) WILL ALSO BE STUDIED. ANALYSIS OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF GLOBAL CHANGES TO THE MARINE ECOSYSTEM IN GENERAL, ESPECIALLY FOR PLANKTON PRODUCTION AND THE RESOURCES EXPLOITED BY FISHERIES. INTERACTION OF THE IMPACT OF FISHING ACTIVITY AND GLOBAL CHANGE ON THE MARINE ECOSYSTEM.
