The organization is an institution under the Government of the Philippines. The State College located within a high priority biodiversity coastal corridors of national & global importance was identified to host the sole Regional ICRM Center (RIC XI-DOSCST) in the island of Mindanao.
RIC XI-DOSCST has three key programs which include the following: A. Biodiversity & Coastal Resources Management B. Institutional & Community Outreach C. Training & Curriculum Development. It will support & contribute in promoting sustainable management of coastal resources & uplift the socio-economic living conditions of the fishing communities.
The center works closely with government agencies led by Department of Environment & Natural Resources in partnership with Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Global Environment Facility, and Asian Development Bank. It also strengthen its research linkages & collaboration with State Universities/Colleges,Non-Government Organization, People’s Organization & other institutions (local, regional, national & international) in environmental protection.
RIC XI – DOSCST is the hub for research, monitoring, training & demonstration activities, and focal institution for information, education & communication (IEC) campaign on coastal biodiversity conservation in the region. The organization will yield various products & services which include data sets, information source materials, professional & short-term courses or trainings, products from mariculture activities, and expert services in the form of student advising, sample analysis, activity facilitation & project/activity proposal preparation. The knowledge & data generated from the project is very important in the ecosystems functions which will enable policy maker to enhance their coastal conservation, development & protection plans. The role of the organization will popularize & complement the use of scientific results from the EMBC+ network & local knowledge systems in the coastal resource management among local officials & resource managers.
